Prompt Part One:
I will ensure that I meet my 2 hour reading goal by making sure that I make time out of my day to read. By this I mean that I will take any possible to read instead of being on my cell phone. I will read on the bus, going to and leaving school. While I wait for my laundry, I will read instead of watching television. Just any possible moment I have to read I will take to complete my goal. My strategies to stay focused will be by detaching myself from any technology that is around me. I think the reason that made it difficult for me to be able to reach my reading goal was because I would be on my cell phone on social media instead of reading my book. This caused me to fall behind with my reading goal throughout last semester. Another strategy would be not letting outside distractions affect me while I am trying to complete my reading goal. By this I mean not letting people distract me from reading my book. My reading goals for this semester includes trying to read more books on my own. Even though I enjoyed reading this year, I know that I will probably not read so much like I did last semester. So by pushing myself, I hope to maintain the 2 hours a week. I feel that if I could just maintain a good reading rate, I will be successful in the class. Last semester I have read mostly romantic books, so I might switch to reading more action and adventure books. Last semester I would meet my reading goal in one day and not even touch the book for the rest of the week. This semester I want to be able to space out my goals and not rush into reading so fast. I think this will be difficult because sometimes when the book has a plot twist I do not want to let the book go. But I will have to fight that urge and just wait until the next day to find out what is going to happen. I think these goals will be successful if I push myself and not let anything get in my way. Prompt Part Two: I think my Choice Reading experience went pretty well overall. I say this because this was the best experience I had for Choice Reading that I have ever had since my freshman year at Grand River Preparatory High School. I am not much of a reader like I used to be when I was younger. This was the first year in English class that I actually enjoyed reading a book for a class. I’m going to lie, in previous years, when I was assigned a book to read I would read the first two or three chapters and I would be done. When I am assigned something to read, I don’t have the energy to read a book compared to if I was able to choose which book to read. Though reading isn’t my most favorite thing to do in English class, this year was different and the love I once had for reading came back this year. I can make sure that this semester is productive because I understand that nothing feels better than getting lost reading a book.
